so the thread topic is "talk about Death Grips" I remember hearing DG through a friend on pidgin. pretty sure he sent me a link to the Guillotine video. I went and downloaded the ajatmm and couldn't break past the 1st three songs I remember wishing they sounded more like Spread Eagle Cross the Block (VERY raw almost badly cut samples and choppiness. went harder than most of the other songs imo) time went on. I gave the album a real listen through and of course it became the only thing I would listen to. I remember trying to play select songs for my very culturally timid Christian father. he's the type of dude that was against me listening to Slayer or Marilyn Manson because their messages would taint my brain. he really dug Beware but I can't say how great he is at hearing lyrics

Hi guys. Literally joined Reddit two days ago, saw /r/deathgrips, was immediately hooked, now I'm on here... I guess. Been a fan since around TMS, definitely in my top 5 of all time. Which goes:
1. Merzbow 2. Death Grips 3. The Residents 4. Frank Zappa 5. Aphex Twin

thanks for doing this, guys. we really needed another forum. Been sad that all there was to talk on was slow-paced reddit and fleeting /mu/ shoutfests. I wanna get an irc channel or something going too if there's enough people to populate it. Mebbe I just want internet friends <3 t.co/xeIhpk9f7Gchannel name is #thruthewallsii

Both were incredibly prolific, both had a veil of anonymity surrounding them, both of them refused to limit their art to any budget or artistic medium, and they were both down for art. like hella fucken down for art, Sonically there really isn't any similarities (you should check out Animal Collective for a more "residents" sound) but I find a lot of parallels between them and DG. and they both made their shit in N California, not really the most shocking coincidence. you have incredible taste, i need to check out merzbow, never heard of em

What got me into DG was their ARG. I'd heard of the term before and read about Year Zero, I Love Bees and others, and was hooked on the second day. MAnyone on /mu/ during this knew what the shitstorm was like. After NLDW leaked, I actually listened to DG for the first time, and my god was I impressed. The rest is history. The other fake ARG's were ok too, obviously the Tim and Shim one was the best. The Coachella livestream was amazing too. Have fun with that hehe. I never really could get into Merzbow much, though I do like some other similar artists.

trend train choo choo
fav bands: 1. Devo 2. Modest Mouse 3. Pavement 4. System of a Down 5. Death Grips
is it weird to put together a list of bands I listened the absolute shit out of back then but can't listen to them anymore? Like they're most influential to me but I've heard Lonesome Crowded West - Modest Mouse so many times that it holds no secrets anymore?
